The District of Columbia Department of Health
provides free health insurance coverage to low income residents of the District
of Columbia through two Medicaid managed care programs called DC Healthy
Families and DC HealthCare Alliance.
Administered by the District’s
Medical Assistance Administration (DC Healthy Families) and the
Health Care Safety Net (DC HealthCare Alliance), both programs partner
with excellent local health insurance plans to provide complete health and
medical services to its members, including dental and vision coverage.
What’s more, DC Healthy Families and DC HealthCare Alliance members are cared
for by many of the best doctors, clinics, hospitals and pharmacies in the area.
Eligibility for the DC Healthy Families and DC HealthCare Alliance programs is
based on household income and is determined by the
Income Maintenance Administration (IMA). IMA determines Medicaid
eligibility for:
DC Healthy Families
- Low income families with children
- Children only
- Pregnant women
- Non-citizen parents with children
- Aged and/or disabled individuals not
currently receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
DC HealthCare Alliance
- Single Adults
- Single Non Citizens
